APC youth wing supports Adeola, rejects imposition of candidates

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi

The Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imeko-Afon Local Council of Ogun State has expressed their support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).

They, however, rejected what they described as attempts to impose a candidate for the State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.

The members, who staged a protest at the party’s secretariat recently, insisted that any aspirant seeking to represent the constituency must emerge through a credible and transparent primary election.

They also expressed dissatisfaction over what they termed the marginalisation of youths in the distribution of political offices within the local government, alleging compromise in party ideology.

The group maintained that the state House of Assembly seat has been occupied by Jemili Akingbade for about 12 years and warned that any move to grant him another term would be resisted strongly.

In a communiqué jointly signed by 10 members, including Ibrahim Muyheed; Fayomi Yunus; Dende Atanda; Yusuf Toheeb; Ayoola Monsurat; Afolabi Sukurat; Ogunbiyi Nafisat; Waliu Fadipe; Ajaba Morufat; and Sukurat Saheed, the protesters called for fairness, equity, and justice in the selection process of candidates.

Speaking during the protest, Yunus, popularly known as ‘Gateway,’ said the agitation was driven by a collective desire to uphold democratic principles within the party.

While reaffirming the group’s support for Adeola, he warned that any attempt by party leaders to impose a candidate could have adverse consequences for the party in the area.

In his response, APC‘s Chairman in Imeko-Afon LGA of the state, Abdulrahman Adebolu, called for calm and assured members that the party operates within established constitutional procedures.
