The family asked for privacy and prayers during the mourning period and said funeral arrangements would be announced later.

News of the actor’s death had circulated on social media earlier before the family’s official confirmation, throwing the Nigerian entertainment industry into mourning.

Several actors, filmmakers and fans have since paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as talented, humble and hardworking.

Born Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke on April 10, 1986, the actor was 40 years old.
Ekubo was one of Nollywood’s most recognised actors and built a successful career in romantic comedies, drama films and television productions.

Before becoming a household name in Nollywood, he first gained public attention after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest.
He later ventured fully into acting and became one of the industry’s most visible faces.

The actor rose to prominence after starring in Weekend Getaway, a 2012 romantic drama that featured some of Nollywood’s biggest stars.

Over the years, Ekubo featured in several popular films, including Lagos Cougars, The First Lady, Catch.er, Diary of a Lagos Girl, Power of 1, A Sunday Affair, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and The Bling Lagosians.

Known for his calm personality, comic timing and charming screen presence, he remained a regular face in Nollywood productions for more than a decade.

Beyond acting, Ekubo was active in youth-focused campaigns and humanitarian activities. In 2020, he was recognised among the “Most Influential People of African Descent under 40” for his contributions to entertainment and social development.

Although the actor had reduced his public appearances in recent months, little was publicly known about his health condition before news of his illness emerged after his death.

As condolences continue to pour in, many Nigerians have remembered Ekubo as one of the familiar faces that helped shape Nollywood entertainment over the last decade.
