Women lead protest over extended Electricity blackout in Lagos community.

Residents of the Agbado area in Lagos State staged a protest at the office of the Ikeja Electric over what they described as a prolonged power outage that has affected the community for weeks. The demonstrators, mostly women, reportedly locked the office entrance while demanding immediate restoration of electricity supply.

According to community members, the blackout has negatively impacted homes, businesses, and daily activities, forcing many residents to spend heavily on alternative power sources. Protesters accused the electricity distribution company of failing to provide clear communication on when power would be restored.

Some residents said repeated complaints to the company produced little or no response, prompting them to organize the demonstration. The women carried placards and called on authorities to intervene in resolving the lingering electricity issue.

In response, officials of Ikeja Electric appealed for calm and explained that technical challenges were responsible for the disruption. The company also assured residents that efforts were underway to address the fault and restore stable electricity to the affected areas.

The incident highlights growing frustration among Lagos communities over recurring power supply challenges and the economic hardship linked to extended blackouts.
