The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, were among top political figures who emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries held nationwide on Saturday.

The APC conducted the primaries across the country’s 360 federal constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the exercise was preceded by the disqualification of 14 aspirants from Ondo, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kogi and Rivers states over their inability to scale the party’s screening process.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the affected aspirants failed to meet requirements set by the party’s screening committees.

Among those disqualified were four serving members of the House of Representatives — Iduma Igariwey from Ebonyi State, Anderson Allison, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead, all from Rivers State.

Others affected include Adefisoye Tajudeen, Olusegun Ategbole, Seun Ajongbolo, Arowole Ayodeji, Morufu Ibrahim, Oseni Oyeniyi, Olaleye Adedipe, Bashir Bello, Sanni Ogembe and retired Air Commodore John Opara.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, secured the APC ticket to seek a fifth consecutive term representing Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

Abbas emerged unopposed following an affirmation exercise conducted across the 13 wards of the constituency.

Announcing the result, the APC Returning Officer for the constituency, Hamisu Kubau, said 1,376 delegates unanimously endorsed Abbas as the party’s standard-bearer for the 2027 election.

The outcome of the APC primaries signals the party’s early preparations for the 2027 polls, with several influential figures already positioning for key legislative contests across the country.
