IGP visits Oyo communities after school attack, orders intensified rescue operations

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Oriire Local Council of Oyo State following Friday’s deadly attack and abduction of pupils, teachers and residents in communities within the council area.

The visit came amid heightened tension across the affected communities after gunmen invaded schools in the Ahoro-Esinle axis, killing a teacher and abducting several pupils and education workers.

During the visit, the IGP expressed concern over the incident and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack.

Disu was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, Ojo Adekimi, due to the proximity of the Oriire axis to communities bordering Kwara State, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle.

The police chief also held meetings with the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, and other security stakeholders, where he received operational briefings on ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments across the affected communities.

Disu assured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations aimed at securing the safe return of all abducted victims.

He said intelligence gathering, tactical deployments and security operations had been strengthened across the affected communities and adjoining forests to track down the abductors and restore normalcy to the area.

The IGP described the attack as cruel, condemnable and unacceptable, insisting that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He also directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing security operations in the area.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of schools, communities and all citizens across the country,” he stated.
