The Oyo State Police Command has commenced forensic analysis of a viral video linked to the recent abduction incident in parts of the state, as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The command disclosed on Sunday that the footage currently circulating across various media platforms is undergoing detailed forensic examination to verify its authenticity and support ongoing investigations and rescue operations.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the command reaffirmed its commitment to securing the safe release of all abducted persons and restoring normalcy to the affected communities.
According to the police, intelligence-driven and tactical operations involving other security agencies are already underway to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed while efforts are intensified to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators behind the incident.
“The Oyo State Police Command has received the video currently circulating across various media platforms in relation to the recent abduction incident within the state,” the statement read.
“Consequently, the footage is presently undergoing comprehensive forensic examination to determine its authenticity and further aid ongoing investigations, rescue operations, as well as the identification and arrest of the perpetrators behind the heinous act.”
The command assured residents that no effort would be spared in rescuing the abducted victims and reuniting them safely with their families.
It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could assist ongoing operations.
The police further cautioned against the circulation of unverified reports, misleading content and materials capable of escalating tension or creating unnecessary panic among residents.
According to the command, criminal elements often exploit such situations to spread fear and undermine ongoing security efforts.
“Members of the public are equally advised to refrain from sharing unverified information, misleading content, or materials capable of heightening tension and creating unnecessary panic, as such situations are often exploited by criminal elements and enemies of peace to further their sinister objectives,” the statement added.
The command encouraged anyone with useful information relating to the incident to promptly report to the nearest security agency to aid investigations and rescue efforts.
The latest development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State following recent attacks and abductions reported in Oriire Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.
Security agencies have since intensified coordinated operations across forests and vulnerable areas in a sustained effort to rescue victims, dismantle criminal hideouts, and prevent further attacks.
