Some of the current biggest players in global table tennis, including Denmark’s Anders Lind and Japan’s Honoka Hashimoto are set to thrill fans at the WTT Contender Lagos, which serves off at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, today.

This year’s tournament has all the ingredients of a crowd-pleasing championship as the top contenders will battle for shares of the $100,000 prize money and 400 ITTF ranking points.

Lind, the men’s reigning champion, who is ranked World No.16, is eager to extend his strong start to 2026 with another triumph on African soil. But he will face tough opposition from Japan’s Shunsuke Togami, the world No.18, and Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, who won the championship in 2024. There is also the ambitious Frenchman, Thibault Poret.

From the home front is Olajide Omotayo, who is making his third appearance in the WTT Series this season.
In the contest are 21 players ranked inside the Top 100, which makes the battles in the men’s singles so attractive to lovers of world-class table tennis.

The women’s competition also promises exciting games with Japan’s Satsuki Odo ready to challenge compatriot Honoka Hashimoto for the crown.

Also already in with swords drawn are another Japanese, Hitomi Sato, Korea’s Joo Cheonhui and Yashaswini Ghorpade of India.
