Presidential Primaries: Ogun APC leaders, members rally behind Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary exercise held across Ogun State on Saturday recorded massive participation, peaceful conduct, and overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as party leaders and members reaffirmed their commitment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Across various wards in the state, party faithful turned out in large numbers for the affirmation exercise, which was conducted without disruption or reports of violence.

At Ward 3, Iperu 1, in Ikenne Local Government Area, members began arriving as early as 9 a.m., with a total of 830 accredited voters participating and unanimously affirming President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate in the ward.

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun described the successful conduct of the exercise as a reflection of peace, unity, and political maturity within the APC in the state.

He said Ogun has consistently maintained a peaceful political atmosphere over the last seven years, allowing citizens and party members to freely participate in democratic processes without intimidation or violence.

“The peace in the state has defined us as a state that knows how to organise, plan, engage, discuss, and manage party affairs without rancour,” Abiodun said.
The governor noted that the presidential affirmation exercise marked the conclusion of a week-long series of APC primaries in the state, covering National Assembly, governorship, and state assembly positions.

He commended President Tinubu for what he described as purposeful leadership at the national level, and praised the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for ensuring smooth conduct of the primaries nationwide.

Abiodun also acknowledged the contributions of party leaders, the State Working Committee, and elder statesman Chief Olusegun Osoba, for their guidance and support.

According to him, consultations across the three senatorial districts helped strengthen party cohesion, deepen participation, and increase members’ sense of belonging.

He expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in 2027, saying President Tinubu’s reforms had laid the foundation for national renewal.
Similarly, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central, described the exercise as evidence of growing party popularity and internal democracy.

Speaking at Ward 10, Opeji, Odeda Local Government Area, where over 2,000 members participated, he said turnout across the state was comparable to a general election.

He disclosed that he polled 85,804 votes in the senatorial primary, describing it as an endorsement of his performance in office.

Salisu praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise across all 236 wards, noting that despite intense political activity, no violence was recorded.
He attributed the enthusiasm of party members to the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration and Governor Abiodun’s infrastructural drive.
In Owode Ward 3, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, party faithful also turned out in large numbers as Chief Olusegun Osoba and his son, Rt. Hon. Olumide Osoba, joined supporters during the exercise.

Their presence further energized members and reinforced what many described as the unity of the APC structure in the state.

Across Ogun State, the exercise ended peacefully, culminating in the unanimous ratification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun also reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu, describing the exercise as a demonstration of solidarity for the President during a visit to Ward 6, Itoko, Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
