The Oyo State Police Command says it has neutralised three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a joint security operation in Otu, located in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Alayande Olayinka, on Tuesday, said the operation was carried out in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies as part of efforts to tackle violent crimes and insecurity across the state.

According to the police, the operation followed a distress report received on May 25, 2026, from local hunters who were on a hunting expedition in Otu when they allegedly came under attack by suspected kidnappers. However, no casualty was recorded among the hunters during the initial attack.

Following the alert, security operatives, local hunters and other agencies were mobilised to the area. Police added the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the responding team, leading to a gun battle.

The command stated that the security team eventually overpowered the suspects, resulting in the killing of three suspected kidnappers.

The operation also led to the rescue of an abducted victim identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50, who was reportedly kidnapped earlier at Okaka and held captive within the Otu area.

Police said the victim sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and had been taken for urgent medical treatment.
Items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle without ammunition, a single-barreled gun and a machete.
The command also disclosed that one of the local hunters involved in the operation sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and is currently receiving medical attention.

Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State praised the efforts of local hunters and other security stakeholders, noting that their intervention contributed significantly to the outcome.

The police reiterated their commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
