The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the African regional body of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) are set to collaborate on a comprehensive training programme to equip engineers with the expertise required to deliver mega infrastructure projects across Africa.
The initiative was the focus of discussions during an interaction session at the National Engineering Centre in Abuja, where the President of the NSE, Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, received the President of the African regional body of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Africa, George Okoroma.
A statement signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the NSE, Abdulkadir Aliyu, said the proposed capacity-building programme will provide engineers with critical knowledge on bidding for and executing multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects undertaken by governments and private sector organisations. The training is also expected to expose participants to international standards in project delivery, contract administration and engineering consultancy practice.
The two bodies said the training would equip engineers with the technical and professional competence needed to compete effectively for large-scale contracts and deliver such projects successfully.
The collaboration will also focus on mentoring and developing young engineers through early exposure to complex, high-capacity engineering projects, preparing the next generation of professionals for leadership roles in infrastructure development across the continent.
In addition, both organisations agreed on measures to strengthen engineering consultancy practice in Nigeria and across Africa.
