The Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD) has concluded plans to a host a training on June 4 as part of efforts aimed at improving policing activities in Lagos.
The Permanent Secretary, BPD, Dr. Babajide Olumuyiwa Martins revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, to discuss ways of improving policing and strengthening collaboration with the Lagos Police Command. He said the training will be held at the Police Officers’ Wives Association Hall in GRA, Lagos, to make it easier for officers to attend.
Speaking during the visit, Martins commended the police command for maintaining law and order in the state, noting that there is still room for improvement in police operations and relationship with residents.
He also stressed the importance of continuous training for police officers, adding that the Commissioner of Police welcomed the idea and described training as necessary for improving the capacity of officers in the discharge of their duties.
According to the bureau, the partnership is aimed at supporting the statutory duties of the Bureau of Public Defender while also helping officers build better relationships with youths and other residents during policing activities.
The bureau further disclosed plans to organise a training programme for police officers on effective policing and public relations.
