Family gives scholarship to students to honour late air chief
An Ebonyi indigene, Obasi Victor Nnanna, with a 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score of 356, has been rewarded with a university scholarship by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who described his achievement as excellent.
Umahi made the pronouncement shortly after receiving news of Nnanna’s outstanding performance from the management of King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, where the student completed his secondary education.
Nnanna scored an aggregate of 356 in the examination, comprising 98 in Mathematics, 98 in Physics, 91 in Chemistry, and 69 in English Language. The feat made him the highest-scoring UTME candidate in Ebonyi State and placed him among the top performers nationwide.
The beneficiary is a member of the pioneer graduating class of King David Gifted Academy, an institution established in 2016 by Umahi during his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State.
The school was founded to promote academic excellence and nurture future leaders through quality education. The scholarship award has been widely applauded by education stakeholders, who described it as a fitting reward for hard work, discipline, and academic excellence.
Also, the family of late retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Terry Omatsola Okorodudu has initiated a scholarship scheme to support students seeking tertiary education across the country.
His widow, Joan Isioma Okorodudu, and son, Steven Bidemi Okorodudu, said the initiative was established to sustain the late military officer’s commitment to education and youth development.
According to the family, the scholarship programme is designed to assist students pursuing higher education in disciplines such as medicine, engineering, law and other degree courses.
Among the first beneficiaries are two children of Nigerian Air Force personnel, two students from Yonwuren College, Ugbuwangwe, Warri, as well as Abubarkar Hashimu Bashir, son of the late officer’s former orderly, Flight Dispatcher Bashir Abubakar, among others.
In a tribute, Yonwuren Media/Foundation described Okorodudu as a distinguished military officer whose career was marked by service, leadership and contributions to national development.
