Delta Police intercept drug haul, arrest three suspected traffickers

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another significant success in its sustained campaign against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse with the arrest of three suspected drug traffickers and the recovery of large quantities of hard drugs in separate intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The command’s spokesperson Bright Edafe said the operations carried out by different tactical units of the Command on June 3, 2026, led to the interception of a suspected drug shipment at the First Niger Bridge Head in Asaba and the dismantling of an alleged drug distribution network in Ika North East Local Government Area.

According to Edafe, the operatives attached to the Special Enquiry Unit, while conducting stop-and-search duties at the First Niger Bridge Head inward Asaba, intercepted a Mercedes truck with registration number KRV 837 ZN.

He said the vehicle was driven by 47-year-old Obinna Nwosu, a resident of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The police image maker disclosed that the suspect initially claimed he was transporting plumbing materials. However, a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a substantial cache of suspected illicit drugs concealed within the truck.

Items recovered from the vehicle included 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and 100 tablets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), popularly known as “Molly.”

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while investigators commenced efforts to trace and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the consignment and its intended distribution network.

Also in a separate operation conducted on the same day, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected drug distribution centre located in Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, in Ika North East Local Government Area.

He stated that during the raid, two suspects identified as Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley were arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo allegedly operated a drug distribution network within the community and surrounding areas.

Bright Edafe said team recovered five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture popularly known as “Monkey Tail,” alongside large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other prohibited drugs.

The Command stated that both suspects and the recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the operation and identify possible accomplices
