In a statement issued by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, the corporation said efforts were underway to manage the situation and provide the necessary assistance to those affected.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirms that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred today.
“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance,” the statement, signed by Opeifa, partly read.
“The Corporation is closely monitoring developments and a detailed statement will be issued as soon as more information becomes available,” it added.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced a major upgrade to operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, increasing the number of daily trips from 90 to 94 and introducing an earlier start time of 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays.
According to LAMATA, the revised timetable will take effect from Monday, June 15, 2026, as part of efforts to improve passenger convenience, reduce waiting times, and cater to the growing number of commuters using the rail corridor.
Under the new schedule, trains will commence operations 30 minutes earlier, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday to Saturday. The authority said the adjustment is aimed at enabling thousands of commuters to begin their journeys ahead of peak-hour road traffic and enjoy faster, more reliable transportation.
