El-Kanemi Warriors reinforced their commitment to youth development by promoting three of their most promising feeders team players to the senior squad ahead of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The decision followed a series of impressive performances from the youngsters at youth level and formed part of the Maiduguri club’s efforts to strengthen its squad while investing in the future.
Among those elevated to the first team was 15-year-old centre-back Hussaini Mohammed, a defender widely regarded as one of the standout prospects within the club’s developmental structure.
Despite his tender age, Hussaini had already attracted attention for his composure on the ball, physical strength and tactical maturity. His ability to organise the backline and remain calm under pressure convinced the coaching staff that he possessed the qualities required to make the transition to senior football.

Also rewarded with promotion were two exciting attacking talents: 15-year-old left winger Abba Maigari and 16-year-old winger Mohammed Hussaini Bata.
Both players had established themselves as key figures for the feeders side through a combination of pace, creativity and confidence in one-on-one situations.
Their performances consistently provided an attacking spark, earning admiration from coaches and supporters alike.
The promotions reflected El-Kanemi Warriors’ broader philosophy of creating opportunities for young players capable of progressing through the club’s ranks rather than relying solely on external recruitment.
At the time, the senior side was under the leadership of experienced tactician Ladan Bosso, a coach renowned for his willingness to nurture emerging talents and provide promising youngsters with opportunities at the highest level.
Bosso’s reputation for youth development is believed to have played a significant role in the decision to fast-track the trio into the first-team environment.
For the club, the move was about more than adding depth to the squad ahead of a demanding NPFL campaign. It also sent a clear message to players within the academy and feeders system that dedication and outstanding performances would be recognised and rewarded.
Club officials expressed confidence that increased competition for places would strengthen the overall quality of the squad while ensuring a sustainable pathway for future talents.
The promotions generated excitement among supporters, many of whom viewed the emergence of home-grown players as a source of pride and optimism for the club’s future.
With preparations underway for the new season, expectations were high that Hussaini Mohammed, Abba Maigari and Mohammed Hussaini Bata would continue their development and seize any opportunities presented to them in the senior team.
For the three teenagers, the elevation represented a defining moment in their young careers – the transition from promise to possibility.
For El-Kanemi Warriors, it reinforced an enduring belief that the future of Nigerian football often lies within the talents nurtured closest to home.
