Against the backdrop of growing insecurity occasioned by abduction, bandits attacks and 26 days after the kidnap of teachers and pupils of schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo, the Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has written a formal letter to Governor Seyi Makinde, expressing his readiness to guard public schools in the state.
Igboho, who is the founder of Iru Ekun Private Security Limited, in a correspondence by the security organization, which was addressed to the state Commissioner for Education and also copied Makinde, vowed to partner with the government in providing effective security in public schools in Oyo State.
The copy of the letter sighted by The Guardian on Thursday, and dated June 9, 2026, requested the state government to provide database on the number of public schools and their locations in the state.
It reads, “Sir, Iru Ekun Security Network’s plan, upon receipt of the requested information, is to ensure that at least two trained members of the outfit are stationed at each public school identified across Oyo State. Their mandate will be to guard school environments, monitor access points, liaise with principals and community vigilantes, and prevent unlawful incursion by criminal elements.
According to the letter signed by Igboho and the legal adviser of Iru Ekun Security Network, Junaid A. Sanusi, the development underscores its commitment to constructive collaboration with government, traditional institutions, and communities in safeguarding schools and ending the cycle of abductions targeting students and teachers.
“We equally advise Oyo State government to consider the possibility of raising fences around all public schools within Oyo State in order to make the school environment easy to guard by the members of Iru Ekun Security Network, stationed to such schools.”
While lauding the ongoing rescue efforts of both the Oyo State government and Federal security agencies, the security outfit stressed that prevention should be prioritised in order to ensure that schools remain safe havens for learning, not targets for marauders.
“Time is of the essence. Every day without preventive deployment exposes our children and teachers to avoidable risk. With proper data and perimeter security, we can create a protective shield around every public school in Oyo State.
“Iru Ekun Security Network reaffirmed its readiness to work with the government, SUBEB, TESCOM, school management boards, and community stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive, constructive, and security-wise solution that restores confidence in public education across Oyo State, “the letter concluded.
