47th CBN Senior Tennis Championship begins today in Abuja

Some of the country’s best tennis stars have gathered in Abuja to vie for honours in various categories of the yearly CBN Senior Tennis Championship, which serves off today at the Tennis Complex, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The championship will culminate in a grand finale on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the same venue.

The tournament will feature exciting contests in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles categories, alongside wheelchair events for both men and women, showcasing some of the nation’s finest tennis talents.

For nearly five decades, the championship has been a vital platform for talent discovery and development, producing players that have gone on to represent Nigeria with distinction at prestigious international competitions, including the Davis Cup and the All-Africa Games.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious tennis tournaments, the CBN Senior Tennis Championship has nurtured and showcased outstanding athletes such as Sunday Maku, David Imonite, Veronica Oyibokia-Iwebema, Christy Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke, Sylvester Emmanuel, Joseph Imeh, Oyinlomo Quadri, and Marylove Edwards.

The championship continues to underscore the CBN’s commitment to youth development, sports excellence, and the promotion of tennis across Nigeria.
