The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said it has recovered and secured the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR) from the Bombardier Challenger CL-601 aircraft, which landed on the highway in Delta state on Wednesday.

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, yesterday, said the private jet with the registration number: N989BC was operated by VMO Aero Limited.

The statement said the bureau immediately, after being notified of the incident, activated its emergency response procedures by deploying its investigative team to the site near Asaba.

Adebayo-Arowojobe also said the NSIB had commenced an investigation into the private aircraft incident, which landed and subsequently departed from the runway during a flight from Lagos to Asaba.

The NSIB said the recovered CVR and FDR would be subjected to detailed analysis to unravel the cause of the incident.

Apart from the CVR and FDR, the NSIB said its investigators are also obtaining relevant operational, maintenance and air traffic control records of the aircraft.

Speaking on the incident, the Director-General of the NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., said the bureau acted promptly following the occurrence on June 10, 2026.

He explained that the CVR and FDR are critical components that would help to establish the facts of the incident.

“We are relieved that there were no reported fatalities or serious injuries. Our commitment remains the advancement of aviation safety in Nigeria,” he added.

Badeh added that the NSIB was coordinating with all relevant stakeholders and authorities in line with the Civil Aviation (Investigation of Air Accidents and Incidents) Regulations and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) annex 13.

He explained that appropriate notifications had been made to the relevant state authorities on the incident.
