Residents of Abia State have been urged to celebrate what was described as visible evidence that democracy can work under the right leadership.
The call was made by the Chairman of the “Alex Otti 4+4 Movement 2027,” Hon. Chibueze Daniel Okah, during the group’s pre-Democracy Day rally held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The rally featured a peaceful street procession aimed at marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
Addressing participants, Okah said what the movement was celebrating was the triumph of the people’s will, the sacrifices of democratic heroes, and the nation’s enduring journey toward a more democratic, just, and prosperous society.
“We are not merely celebrating democracy, but the visible evidence that democracy can work when entrusted to competent, visionary, and accountable leadership,” he said.
Okah reminded Abians that three years ago, the people of the state made what he described as a bold decision by voting for change, transparency, development, and hope.
According to him, that hope has translated into measurable progress across the state.
He stated that under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, Abia State has witnessed significant transformation in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, environmental sanitation, and public service reforms.
He pointed to roads abandoned for years but now reconstructed as evidence of the administration’s achievements.
Speaking on preparations for the 2027 elections, Okah said the movement was established to mobilise citizens, educate voters, strengthen democratic participation, and ensure continuity of good governance in Abia State and Nigeria.
He urged eligible voters to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing the importance of safeguarding the cards ahead of future elections.
Okah also called for the recruitment, training, and deployment of dedicated polling unit agents, as well as the engagement of election observers and volunteers.
He further encouraged the mobilisation of non-resident Abians to actively participate in the democratic process.
