Operatives of Idiroko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a driver and his guarantor in a foiled a cross-border trafficking of company’s vehicle into Benin Republic.
The suspect are: Seun Lawal, 46, and Ademola Oriyomi, 38.
The two suspects were arrested for conniving to smuggle a stolen company bus into Benin Republic.
They were arrested following credible intelligence received at about 11:00 p.m. on June 12, 2026.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.
Babaseyi explained that Seun, the driver of the 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus connived with his guarantor, Ademola, to smuggled the vehicle, earlier declared stolen from Lagos, into the Benin Republic for illegal disposal.
He explained that the suspects had positioned the bus at Babaloke area of Idiroko and were preparing to move it across the international border under false pretence.
Babaseyi said that upon the information, the CSP of the Division, Adejuwon Ariyo mobilised and led a surveillance team to the location, where operatives intercepted the suspects in the course of executing the cross-border movement.
He said that the operatives in tactical response, demobilised and intercepted the vehicle by shooting one of its tyres, and prevented the bus from being taken across the border.
The Police Public Relations Officer said that prompt intervention led to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of the stolen bus at the scene.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Seun Lawal, a driver, conspired with Ademola Oriyomi, his guarantor, to steal and sell the vehicle in the Benin Republic.”
“The suspects admitted that the proceeds were intended to facilitate their relocation after the illegal transaction.” he said
Babaseyi said that the suspects are currently in custody while investigation continues to uncover possible links to broader cross-border vehicle theft syndicates.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and tactical precision of CSP Adejuwon Ariyo and the operatives of Idiroko Division, for the intelligence interception, demobilisation, and recovery of the stolen vehicle.
Ojajuni reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing, strengthened border security operations, and sustained efforts aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action within Ogun State and its border corridors.
He urged the members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
