…as Obasanjo faults APC’s Ogun East Deputy Governorship
… insists on APC’s unfair treatment
Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ogun State, yesterday unveiled Daughter of Former President, Iyabo Obasanjo as Ogun Central Senatorial District Candidate to contest the 2027 general elections.
At the event held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, PDP’s Governorship Candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu and his running mate Lateefah Sowunmi-Kolapo, and other party leaders officially presented Obasanjo as the PDP candidate for Ogun Central.
Obasanjo, while addressing the party members at the event, thanked the party’s leadership for choosing her as the candidate of the party for Ogun Central Senatorial District.
She spoke on her resignation with the All Progressive Congress(APC), accusing the party’s leadership of persistent disregard, rejection, and unfair treatment towards her.
Obasanjo insisted that she was not carried along in the consensus arrangement that produced Senator Solomon Adeola(Yayi) as APC’s consensus candidate.
She, however, questioned APC’s choice of Adeola’s running mate, Kudirat Balogun from Ogun East Senatorial District, accused the ruling party of having disregard for Ogun Central particularly zoning arrangement in the state.
“When I entered APC I did it with all my heart. And I tell everybody knows that APC will pick its candidates through consensus. When it was time for central the call a meeting.”
“Some people call me APC leaders will chose consensus and raise the hands up at the meeting, but I thought there should be call us together before picking up. If you don’t beg those in central and East.”
“No one even apologize to me, APC can’t treat me like a toddler. they say west will be governor and deputy will go to East we don’t want speaker at the central – we want deputy governor. I was mistreated that was why I left APC.” She added.
Earlier, Hon. Adebutu expressed concern over Obasanjo’s move to join the party, but maintained that with his running mate, Sowemimo-Kolapo, by his side and the support of other party members, the PDP remains the strongest contender in the state’s 2027 elections.
