Nab suspect over abduction of three children in Adamawa

The police in Anambra State have arrested a landlord, Ogochukwu Ugoeze, in connection with the gruesome killing of a nursing student, Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka.

The deceased was a multi-award-winning final-year National Diploma (ND II) student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, in Idemili South Local Council of Anambra State.

The incident occurred at the student’s residence on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

A viral video clip monitored by The Guardian showed a priest, visibly distraught, directing a companion to take photographs of Miss Chilaka’s room, where a stick was reportedly found.

The footage also showed her lifeless body outside the room, bearing cuts on the thighs and other visible injuries.

The video further revealed bloodstains on the ground, damaged household items, and personal belongings scattered around the compound, suggesting that a struggle may have taken place between the deceased and her assailant before her death.

The priest was heard lamenting: “My daughter, my daughter! This is the dead body of my daughter. This is what they did to my daughter.”

Neighbours reportedly pointed to Ugoeze, the deceased’s landlord, alleging that he had persistently sexually harassed the student, advances which she allegedly rejected.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

It was gathered that the landlord initially reported to the police that unknown persons had gained access to his compound, attacked the student and left her dead. However, residents reportedly questioned the account, noting that a dog kept within the compound usually barked at strangers entering the premises.

The police subsequently arrested the landlord as the principal suspect while investigations continued.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, and directed investigators to expedite action on the suspected murder of the 23-year-old nursing student, an orphan from Isinwa in Ngor Okpala Local Council of Imo State.

The Anambra State Police Command, in a statement, confirmed that the landlord is in custody and undergoing interrogation.

Also, the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged abduction of three children in Yola North Local Council of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, revealing that the children’s father, Samaila Musa, reported their disappearance to the police after they were allegedly abducted and taken to an unknown destination.

According to the statement, Musa, a resident of Hullere Gwalamba in Yola North Local Council, reported the incident to the State Intelligence Department on June 16, 2026.

He told the police that on June 12, 2026, three boys — Adamu Samaila Sultan, 24, Bilal Abdurrahman, 8, and Ya’u Sani Baba Iyali, 10 — were kidnapped and whisked away by unknown persons.

“The complainant further reported that the kidnappers later established contact with the family and demanded ransom as a condition for the release of the victims,” Nguroje stated.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, directed operatives of the command to launch a full-scale investigation and deploy intelligence and technical resources to track down those responsible.

Nguroje said the suspect is currently in protective custody and has been providing useful information to assist investigators in apprehending other members of the alleged kidnapping syndicate operating in the state.

He added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
