Gwarzo challenges Kano govt over fund diversion claim

Former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo(R) and Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf (L)

The governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has called on the state government to publicly present evidence supporting allegations of fund diversion allegedly linked to his family.

The demand comes amid rising political tension in the state over claims of mismanagement of local government allocations.

The controversy reportedly stems from accusations raised within the administration of , suggesting irregularities in the handling of funds meant for local councils.

The claims, which quickly spread across political circles, have been strongly rejected by Gwarzo, who insists they are politically motivated and aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of future elections.

Gwarzo, a former deputy governor of the state and now a key opposition figure under the NDC platform, described the allegations as “unfounded and misleading,” arguing that no official document or financial record has been presented to substantiate the claims.

He maintained that public office holders should rely on verifiable facts rather than statements that could inflame political tensions.

He further challenged the government to allow independent investigation into the matter if there is any genuine concern, stressing that transparency should not be selective or used as a political weapon. According to him, accountability must be backed by evidence, not assumptions or hearsay.

The exchange adds to the already heated political atmosphere in Kano, where disputes between ruling and opposition figures have continued to shape public discourse. Observers say the latest confrontation reflects deeper rivalries that are likely to intensify as political realignments and early campaigns begin to take shape.
