The Adamawa state police command has arrested 57 suspects during a coordinated operation targeting Shilla gang activities, drug abuse, public nuisance, and other criminal offences in parts of the state.
The operation, conducted in identified criminal hideouts and black spots across Jimeta, Girei, and Yola town, forms part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb criminality and enhance public safety.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, and involved Divisional Police Officers working under the supervision of their respective Area Commanders.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of 57 suspects for offences ranging from alleged involvement in Shilla-related activities and public nuisance to possession of dangerous weapons and prohibited substances.
During the raid, operatives reportedly recovered various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances from the suspects. The exhibits have been documented and are expected to be tendered as evidence during prosecution.
The Command disclosed that the suspects have been charged to court in accordance with the law, while further profiling and investigations are ongoing to determine their possible links to other criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Kabiru Umar Hassan commended the professionalism and dedication of officers who participated in the operation, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs and ensuring lasting peace across Adamawa state.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information to aid crime prevention and detection.
The Adamawa state police command reiterated its resolve to sustain the crackdown on criminal elements and maintain public safety throughout the state.
