Transport stakeholders back Tinubu administration’s reforms

President Bola Tinubu

The National Coordinator of Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, Prince Segun Obayendo, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the welfare of transport operators across Nigeria following a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) and the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC).

The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the road and maritime transport sectors, including LASTCOC National Coordinator, Lukman Shittu; AMATO National President, Remi Ogungbemi; incoming AMATO President, Moruf Raheem; AMATO Secretary, Sani Bala; and Vice Chairman of Trustees (VOT) AMATO, Leye Thomas.

Participants reviewed challenges facing transport operators, particularly the rising cost of fuel and spare parts, as well as operational difficulties associated with cargo movement through Nigeria’s seaports.

Addressing the gathering, Obayendo described transporters as critical drivers of Nigeria’s economy and pledged continued engagement with industry stakeholders. He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima remained committed to addressing issues affecting the sector and ensuring that the concerns of transport operators receive attention.

Speaking on behalf of AMATO, Secretary Sani Bala praised recent government initiatives aimed at improving transportation and trade facilitation. He cited the development of marine and rail transport infrastructure, as well as the introduction of the National Single Window project, which he said would help reduce bureaucratic delays in trade documentation and enhance port efficiency.

Bala noted that the reforms were positioning Nigeria to strengthen its competitiveness in maritime trade and cargo operations.

Other stakeholders, including Ogungbemi, Raheem, Shittu and Thomas, commended ongoing federal investments in transport infrastructure and expressed optimism that continued collaboration between government and industry groups would yield positive results for operators across the road, rail and maritime sectors.

The meeting concluded with a commitment by both parties to strengthen cooperation as part of efforts to mobilise transport stakeholders nationwide, covering road, rail, maritime, aviation, pipeline and logistics operations.
