The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Novel Communication Limited (NCL) to produce a political compendium documenting the profiles, track records and campaign manifestos of candidates contesting the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by the Chairman of Novel Communication Limited, Dr Abubakar Jimoh, the agreement was signed in Abuja by the Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali Mohammed Ali, and Jimoh.
The statement said the project would culminate in the publication and launch of the compendium on October 1, 2026.
According to the statement, the publication will cover candidates seeking election as President, governors, members of the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly ahead of the 2027 polls.
It said the compendium was designed to serve as a reference document for Nigerians by providing information on the achievements, campaign promises and manifestos of candidates to help voters make informed decisions.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ali described the initiative as an important contribution to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
He said the publication would not only guide prospective voters but also serve as valuable reference material for researchers and scholars.
Ali added that the project aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and would stand as a lasting contribution to the country’s political development.
He also commended Jimoh and the management of Novel Communication Limited for initiating the project and supporting efforts aimed at promoting democratic engagement.
Earlier, Jimoh said the publication would help reduce the indiscriminate display of campaign posters, discourage vote buying and encourage Nigerians to assess candidates based on their track records rather than ethnic, religious or financial considerations.
He added that the compendium would be available in both print and digital formats through the websites of NAN and NCL to ensure wider public access.
Jimoh said the two organisations would also seek the support and endorsement of political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure the success of the initiative.
According to him, “One of the major drawbacks of our quest for the entrenchment of democracy and good governance is the absence of a well-articulated single publication that serves as a veritable reference document for Nigerian voters to make wise and well-informed choices during elections.”
He expressed confidence that the initiative would help curb political thuggery, vote buying and other electoral malpractices while promoting issue-based campaigns.
