Google, Gemini bring 2026 World Cup closer to fans

To ensure football fans never miss a moment, Google and Gemini have introduced a suite of powerful, intuitive tools designed to bring users right into the heart of the action.

Google has offered six easy ways for football lovers across the globe to to upgrade their World Cup experience. Firstly, with Live Score Pinning, fans can now see real-time match data, including lineups and standings, directly on Google. For ultimate convenience, users can pin live scores directly to their Android or iOS lock screens simply by “following” a team or match, enabling at-a-glance updates without unlocking their phones.

Secondly, fans can settle debates with AI Mode. Google said users can leverage AI Mode in Google Search to access instant facts, player statistics, or rule clarifications. Fans can even request interactive visuals, such as soccer formations, to better understand coaching strategies.

Thirdly, they can find viewing hotspots with “Ask Maps”. The feature in Google Maps helps locate and reserve spots for viewing parties. Additionally, Google Maps and Waze provide live traffic and transit updates. On Waze, drivers can even see live score updates on their dashboard whenever the car comes to a stop.

Fourtly, fans can customise morning news briefings. Google said fans who missed late-night games can wake up to tailored updates. It said Gemini Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers can utilise “Scheduled Actions” to set up a personalised soccer news digest, delivering curated updates about their favorite teams and players at a preferred time each morning.

There is also an opportunity for fans to step into the game with Nano Banana. The technology firm said the new “Nano Banana” templates in the Gemini app’s “Images” tab allow users to upload a photo and insert themselves into custom soccer scenes, complete with national colors or official jerseys.

And lastly, there is a personal “Matchday Hub”. Here, Gemini now acts as a comprehensive tournament dashboard. By asking Gemini for match updates, users open a dynamic “Matchday Hub” that combines live text, statistics, images, and videos into one seamless experience.
