Ambassadorial nominee, Fasina advocates greater PPP for national devt

President Bola Tinubu

Ambassadorial nominee, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has said that greater Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) will play a prominent role in Nigeria’s rapid development.

Fasina, who noted that the Federal Government had initiated and is implementing policies for development, called on the private and public sectors, both corporate and individuals, to take advantage of the foundation.

The ambassadorial nominee spoke yesterday, when journalists took him up on the pathway to Nigeria’s development and on his ambassadorial nomination.

HOWEVER, a coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) has kicked against the ambassadorial nomination of Fasina, citing multiple pending court cases against him.

The CSOs include Gender Relevance Initiative Promotion and others.

The coalition said that following complaints by civil society groups and other stakeholders, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) had launched a probe into the allegations against Fasina.

It said that the ICPC had initiated criminal proceedings against him, which are currently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The CSOs noted that public diplomatic appointments are expressions of public trust, adding that ambassadors serve as representatives of the Nigerian State and embody the values, integrity, and moral authority that Nigeria seeks to project globally.

They said the standards applicable to such appointments must extend beyond the narrow question of criminal conviction and encompass broader considerations of public confidence, ethical leadership, institutional credibility, and respect for the rule of law.
