The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects for alleged offences ranging from armed robbery and “one-chance” robbery to cultism, illegal possession of firearms and obtaining money by false pretence in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations also led to the recovery of a stolen Toyota Venza, three locally made firearms, a Toyota Camry allegedly used by a one-chance robbery syndicate, 17 stolen mobile phones, an HP EliteBook laptop and N1.1 million suspected to be proceeds of travel fraud.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Omolola Odutola, said the suspects were identified as Bola Salau, 42; Segun Balogun, 25; Emmanuel Friday; Tunde Abioye; Ankpa James; Tunde Ogunseye, 41; and Owodunni Seun, 36.
According to her, operatives of the Ilaro Area Command intercepted Salau and Balogun during a stop-and-search operation along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road and recovered a blue Toyota Venza from them.
She said the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding ownership of the vehicle, prompting detectives to trace its rightful owner in Ede, Osun State.
“The owner confirmed that the vehicle was stolen during an armed robbery attack on his residence on June 23, 2026, when gunmen dispossessed him and his family of valuables before escaping with the car,” she said.
In a separate operation, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division arrested Emmanuel Friday and Tunde Abioye, alleged members of a one-chance robbery syndicate operating around the Magboro axis.
The arrests followed a complaint by a female victim who alleged that she was dispossessed of her Samsung A16 mobile phone valued at N295,000 and N120,000 in cash after boarding a commercial vehicle operated by the suspects.
Odutola said intelligence gathering led operatives to a hotel in Magboro, where the suspects were arrested and a Toyota Camry allegedly used for the operation was recovered. The victim subsequently identified the suspects.
Similarly, operatives of the Mowe Division arrested Ankpa James over an alleged travel fraud after a 21-year-old complainant accused him of collecting N1.276 million on the pretext of processing travel documents to Luxembourg.
According to the police, the suspect confessed during interrogation, while N1.1 million was recovered and released to the complainant on bond pending the conclusion of investigations.
At Adatan, security operatives arrested Tunde Ogunseye during a coordinated raid after he allegedly attempted to attack officers with a locally fabricated pistol. He was subdued, and a search of his residence led to the recovery of another locally made firearm.
The police further alleged that Ogunseye is a member of the Eiye confraternity and is involved in illicit drug activities. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Meanwhile, operatives in Ode-Remo foiled an armed robbery attack targeting students at Itun-Raye following a distress call.
The suspects reportedly fled into a nearby bush on sighting the police, abandoning one locally made Dane gun, two expended cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 mobile phones, power banks, a rechargeable lamp and other personal belongings believed to have been stolen from victims.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of Owodunni Seun, who was allegedly found loitering around the scene. Police described him as a habitual offender previously convicted for receiving stolen property, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the fleeing gang.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the arrests were the result of coordinated operations by officers attached to the Ilaro Area Command and the Ibafo, Mowe, Adatan and Ode-Remo divisions.
He commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained action against criminal elements across the state.
Ojajuni also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security agencies in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
