The Northern Elders Progressive Movement (NEPM) has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is making significant progress in the fight against insecurity, infrastructure development, and efforts aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence across Nigeria.

Secretary-General of the movement, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Sokoto on Monday. According to the movement, President Tinubu‘s administration has continued to show determination and political will in confronting the nation’s security challenges, particularly in the North-West, where military operations have recorded notable successes against criminal elements.

“The progress made in degrading the operational capacity of bandits across several states deserves recognition and encouragement. While isolated attacks still occur, there is no doubt that our gallant Armed Forces have intensified operations deep inside notorious forest hideouts, dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring hope to affected communities,” the statement said.

The group welcomed reports of successful military operations in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states, noting that several bandits’ camps had been destroyed while notorious kingpins were neutralised during coordinated security offensives.

It particularly applauded the ongoing Operation Fansan Yamma, describing it as one of the most impactful security operations in recent times, and urged the military to sustain the momentum until lasting peace is restored across the region.

The movement also commended the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for his commitment to strengthening military operations and providing strategic support that has enhanced the effectiveness of Operation Fansan Yamma and other security interventions across the North-West.

“It is important that Nigerians appreciate and support the sacrifices being made daily by our security personnel. Their courage, resilience, and patriotism deserve the collective backing of every citizen,” the statement added.

The Movement further called on Nigerians, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations, to embrace unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, stressing that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability and collective responsibility.

“No amount of sacrifice towards preserving Nigeria’s unity, political stability, and peaceful coexistence is too much. We must continue to tolerate one another, respect constituted authority, and work together for the good of future generations. Our country needs greater political goodwill, patriotism, and national solidarity now more than ever.”

It said the Federal Government‘s achievements in key sectors demonstrate a strong commitment to preserving national unity, strengthening democratic governance, and laying the foundation for sustainable development despite prevailing economic and security challenges.
The group reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote peace, security, and inclusive development, expressing optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through unity, responsible leadership, and sustained public cooperation.
