Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has pledged the state government’s support for the family of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, who was murdered by a mob in Maraban Jos, a community along the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.
Sani made the pledge during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, assuring them that his administration would cater for the welfare of her husband and four children, including sponsoring the children’s education.
Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was brutally lynched and her body set ablaze by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Council, over allegations that she attempted to kidnap children.
Speaking during the visit, the governor condemned the mob action and vowed that all those involved in the killing would face the full weight of the law.
According to him, he was outside the state on official assignment when the incident occurred but immediately directed senior government officials to visit and sympathise with the family.
“I’m working closely with the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter.
“I am pleased to say that extensive investigations have been carried out. As we speak, about 41 persons have been charged with culpable homicide, while another 41 have been investigated. In addition, 30 suspects have been charged with unlawful assembly,” he said.
The governor stressed that everyone involved in the murder would be prosecuted, regardless of their status, adding that the action would serve as a deterrent to jungle justice.
He also urged security agencies to investigate the alleged complicity of some of their personnel, particularly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Maraban Jos.
