Igbogbo community to mark 10th coronation anniversary of monarch on July 19

The Igbogbo Kingdom in Lagos State has unveiled activities to mark the 10th coronation anniversary of Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom.

The anniversary planning committee, during a media briefing held at the monarch’s Palace over the weekend, said that the week-long celebration, scheduled to be held from July 19-26, 2026, would feature cultural, educational, health outreach and other activities.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Adesegun Ogunlewe, while speaking at the briefing, said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the decade-long reign of Oba Kasali and the developments recorded in Igbogbo.

Ogunlewe, a former Lagos State Head of Service, said Oba Kasali ascended the throne on July 25, 2016, as the eighth Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom.

He described the monarch as a legal practitioner, civil servant, and community leader whose reign had focused on peace, youth development, and others in the community.

The former HoS said that Adeboruwa’s throne, which was established before 1900, had been occupied by several monarchs who contributed to preserving the history and culture of Igbogbo.

According to him, Oba Kasali’s reign had witnessed developments in some areas, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, the completion of a new palace described as a befitting structure for the traditional institution, and the establishment of a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Igbogbo.

Ogunlewe said activities for the anniversary had already commenced with the free Computer-Based Test training organised for more than 500 Senior Secondary School students in April, which was designed to prepare students for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

He said the anniversary celebration would also include medical outreach, an awareness rally on sexual and gender-based violence, a novelty football match, distribution of palliatives, visits to orphanage homes, public lectures, cultural activities, conferment of chieftaincy titles, and a grand finale.

According to him, the celebration will begin on July 19 with traditional prayers at the Adeboruwa Palace and end with a thanksgiving service on July 26, while the grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at Zumuratul Grammar School, Igbogbo.
