Tinubu commissions Gaduwa Road, says all FCT districts must feel RHA impact

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, commissioned the full scope development of Akinwumi Ajibola Street, comprising Important Local Streets (ILS) 16, 18 and 19 in Gaduwa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every district in the nation’s capital benefits from the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Represented by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the completion of the road project symbolised the restoration of access and dignity to residents who had endured years of poor infrastructure despite building homes in the district.

“We are here to open a road, but more importantly, we are here to restore access. In this government, we measure ourselves by finished work. This street is finished work,” he said.

The President noted that the road, equipped with drainage systems and streetlights, would improve mobility, reduce travel time, minimise vehicle damage and enhance the value of properties in the area.

He said the project reflected his administration’s resolve to translate public resources into tangible benefits for citizens, stressing that governance must be measured by visible results rather than promises.

Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for transforming the culture of project delivery in Abuja, saying the minister had ended the era of abandoned projects and extended infrastructure development beyond the city centre to districts and satellite towns.

“You have changed the culture of delivery in the FCT. You ended the era of mobilisation without movement and abandoned inner roads while major highways received all the attention. You inspect, you correct and you finish,” the President said.

He urged residents of Gaduwa to safeguard the infrastructure by keeping drainage channels free of refuse, protecting streetlights from vandalism and promptly reporting any damage to relevant authorities.

Tinubu also assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure development across the FCT.

“Our task is fixed: finish what matters, connect what was separated and ensure that public funds show up as public value. Every district deserves access. Every citizen deserves to feel government where they live,” he added.

Earlier, Wike said the commissioning formed part of the 31-day programme marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and underscored the government’s determination to spread development evenly across the FCT.

He recalled that when he and the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, assumed office, Tinubu directed that no district should be neglected, whether in the city centre or satellite communities.

According to him, that directive has guided the administration’s execution of road projects across districts including Jahi-Gwarimpa, Katampe, Guzape, Kwali and now Gaduwa.

“No district will say it has not felt the impact of this administration. We are working with action. Through the support of the National Assembly, FCT budgets are processed promptly, funds are released, and we are able to implement the President’s directives without delay,” Wike said.

The minister also cautioned the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) against naming roads constructed by the Federal Government without obtaining approval from the FCT Administration.

He maintained that while local government councils have statutory responsibilities regarding street naming, roads funded and constructed by the Federal Government should not be renamed without authorisation.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the inauguration of the Gaduwa road project as another milestone in the ongoing transformation of the capital city under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She thanked President Tinubu, Wike, the National Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, contractors, consultants, security agencies, development partners and residents of Gaduwa for their support towards the successful execution of the project.

Mahmoud reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to sustaining the momentum of infrastructure development across Abuja to improve the quality of life of residents.
