The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the police to conduct a diligent, impartial, and thorough investigation into the killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, on June 21, 2026.
The party said the investigation would be incomplete despite the arrest of one Kareem Saheed, popularly known as Tanfeani, unless all those involved in the alleged attack, including their sponsors, are identified and prosecuted.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the party urged investigators to examine a branded vehicle allegedly used by the attackers, bearing the inscription “Ajisope AMBO,” a slogan it claimed is associated with some APC political figures in the state.
Olapade was reportedly shot dead near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat while attempting to rescue his mother, who had fallen during the attack by gunmen.
The PDP also appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and other relevant institutions to closely monitor the investigation to ensure it is conducted fairly, professionally, and without political interference.
According to the statement, reports available to the party indicated that hours before the attack, the court-sacked APC chairman of Irepodun Local Government allegedly contacted the Amotekun commander in the council area and directed operatives to vacate their office within the council premises, warning that anyone who returned would be shot.
The party further alleged that shortly after the reported threat, the Amotekun office within the council secretariat came under attack by suspected political thugs, adding that the incident was reported to the Osun State Police Command by the Amotekun Corps Commander.
The PDP also noted that Kareem Saheed, one of the principal suspects arrested in connection with the incident, reportedly stated during a media interview while in police custody that he serves as an Executive Assistant to the court-sacked APC chairman of Irepodun Local Government.
It argued that the statement raises critical investigative questions, particularly in view of the earlier alleged threat.
“In view of these allegations, we are concerned that there has been no publicly known action by the Osun Police Command to question or investigate individuals mentioned in connection with these events,” the statement said.
The party alleged that attention had instead shifted to the PDP chairman in Irepodun Local Government despite what it described as the absence of any publicly known evidence linking him to the incident.
It further expressed concern over the reported invasion of the PDP chairman’s residence on June 29 by police officers allegedly acting on the directive of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to the PDP, the council chairman claimed he was not invited for questioning before the operation and that property at his residence was damaged.
The party said the development was disturbing and could create the impression that the investigation was being diverted from those allegedly connected to the killing toward political opponents.
The Osun PDP urged security agencies to ensure that the investigation remains evidence-based and that all those found culpable, regardless of political affiliation, are brought to justice.
