State government, APC trade words over IGP’s visit
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has urged eligible voters in the state not to sell their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the cards as a powerful instrument for determining the state’s future ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Oyebamiji appealed while addressing members of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADS), Osun State chapter, during a special prayer session and meeting organised in his honour.

He also called on religious leaders in the state to continue offering prayers for a peaceful, free and credible election, stressing that peaceful coexistence remained essential to the state’s progress.

The APC gubernatorial candidate, who pledged to run an inclusive, participatory and people-centred administration if elected as governor, promised to prioritise security, workers’ welfare, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, commerce and industry.

Earlier, the Osun State Secretary of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Akande Ola Hafiz, described Oyebamiji as a bona fide member of the society whose public service record reflected integrity, humility and dedication.

Also speaking, the National President of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Musedik Kazeem Adeniji (SAN), who was represented by the National Vice President, Justice Moshood Adekunle Adeigbe (rtd), commended Oyebamiji’s longstanding support for the organisation and prayed for his success at the polls.

IN another development, Osun State Government and the APC have traded words over security and policing in the state.

In a video posted by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the state government accused the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, of deploying subtle blackmail to smear Adeleke over a report of allegedly hiding wanted suspects in the Government House.

Alimi said that despite claims of having access to such reports, there are questions about the actionable steps the police authorities took in addressing the development and the claims of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.

However, the Osun APC said the IGP’s remarks during his visit supported its earlier allegation that the individuals accused of criminal activities were being kept safe within the Osun Government House.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that the IGP had directed Gotan to address the allegation professionally.

It, however, described Alimi’s response to the IGP’s remarks as “misplaced” and a mere afterthought.

The APC maintained that the IGP’s statement had confirmed its repeated position regarding the presence of wanted suspects, who had jumped bail over alleged murder and other criminal charges.
