The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has set up a five-man reconciliatory committee that would reconcile leaders and members of the party after the outcome of the May 2026 party primaries that have overturned the ruling party in the state.
The committee’s chairman, retired Colonel AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal, flanked by other members of the team, told newsmen in Ilorin, on Wednesday, that it is expedient for the party to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general election on the background of public statements and rallies by different groups in the party.
The chairman, who said that the task is daunting, expressed joy that no party to the ensuing misunderstanding had jettisoned APC, saying: “it is a family feud”.
He said: “we are all one family. We have watched and listened to all contending positions as they unfold publicly. No party to this misunderstanding has jettisoned the party. All pay allegiance to the party. In this regard, our task is made light. It is thus a family feud and we must all resolve issues with family love”.
Lawal declared that the terms of reference of the committee are to engage and mediate with all aggrieved members and stakeholders across the state to identify the root causes of disputes and facilitate amicable resolution.
“We are to submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to the state executive committee to guide the party to healing and reintegration.
Let me, on behalf of members of this committee, extend an olive branch to every member of the party. The committee will be attentive, sensitive and loving for all.
“Thus, we appeal to all aggrieved members to open their hearts and minds for a warm and welcoming reception with a view to finding lasting solutions to this family predicament.
“Our appeal to all our members is to sheath the sword and refrain from provocative utterances. This is necessary to douse tension and allow good reasoning prevail. All of us as party members must be ready to make sacrifices necessary to enable APC retain its winning streaks in Kwara State.
“We must not betray the confidence reposed in us by the good people of Kwara State, who love the party and demand for more services to the people. We must unite, be formidable and poised to win the general elections. It is the pathway to shared prosperity for all,” he stressed.
He noted that the committee had commenced its programme by reaching out to all, adding that, “We shall also hold meetings at the senatorial level to bring party local government executive committee representatives, party aspirants and canditates in all the elective offices as well as stakeholders and various interest groups to dialogue and mediation.
“We shall engage with the G15 individually and collectively. We shall solicit and seek facilitators for the good cause we pursue. We will welcome every help as we journey through this challenging path. Let me recognize and thank all party members and faithfuls who have been working as individuals and groups to resolve our disagreements. The creation of this committee does not vitiate their efforts, it is in recognition of it and to reinforce it. Please increase the tempo and we shall work with you and acknowledge you.
“I want to conclude that we do not take this assignment lightly and do not take anyone for granted. We come in peace and wish all aggrieved persons to give us a chance for mediation and resolution”.
Other members of the committee at the briefing included Dr. Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Engineer Musa Yeketi; and ACG Ahmed Abbass.
