God’s wisdom key to tackling insecurity, says Oyo CAN Chairman

Northern CAN condemns attacks in Kwara, Borno, Kebbi

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State Chapter, Revd. Olukayode Ogundiya has urged political leaders at the federal and state levels to seek divine wisdom rather than rely solely on human expertise in addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Ogundiya made the call while speaking on the sidelines of the public presentation of The Proverbial Seven Pillars of Wisdom by Dr. Felix Tenimimonimi El-Schaeddhaei at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.

His remarks come against the backdrop of the abduction of scores of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The cleric said Nigeria’s leaders must embrace God’s wisdom in governance, insisting that human intelligence alone cannot solve the country’s security challenges.

“Wisdom is something every individual needs daily, regardless of how knowledgeable or experienced they may be. What Nigeria needs is not just ordinary wisdom but the wisdom of God. Our leaders must fear God and govern according to His principles,” he said.

According to him, politicians should desist from placing absolute confidence in their personal abilities and instead depend on divine guidance.

“If only our politicians and leaders can trust God, this nation will change for the better. Most of the time, they trust in their expertise and their own wisdom, but the Bible warns against relying solely on human wisdom. That is why we are witnessing the challenges confronting the country today,” he said.

Ogundiya disclosed that the Oyo State chapter of CAN would hold a special day-long prayer programme on Saturday, July 11, at Orita-Mefa Baptist Church, Ibadan, to seek divine intervention for the release of the abducted pupils and teachers, as well as lasting peace and security in Oyo State and Nigeria.

“We have the weapon of prayer, and that is what we must continue to use. We believe God will intervene and grant freedom to the abducted children and their teachers. We are trusting Him for a breakthrough,” he said.

He explained that the programme, scheduled to run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., would bring together eminent Christian leaders and worshippers from within and outside the state to intercede for the nation.

Earlier, one of the reviewers of the book, columnist and media scholar, Dr. Festus Adedayo, described wisdom as the missing ingredient in leadership and national development, arguing that information and knowledge without wisdom often produce poor outcomes.

According to him, the 421-page book demonstrates that wealth, power and knowledge become meaningful only when guided by wisdom.

Also reviewing the book, Dr. Tunde Hamzat said the publication offers valuable lessons on philosophy, leadership, resilience and creativity, adding that quality leadership cannot be achieved without the application of wisdom.

In his remarks, the author, Dr. Felix El-Schaeddhaei, said the book was the product of two decades of research and reflection on what he described as the seven enduring pillars of wisdom: self-awareness, critical thinking, creativity, compassion and love, power and authority, resilience, and sound objective judgment.

The author said the work was designed not only to enlighten readers but also to promote responsible leadership, healing and national transformation through the practical application of wisdom.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli was the Chief Launcher, while the party’s senatorial candidate for Oyo South, Aderemi Oseni, and Olumide Onakoya served as Co- Chief Launchers, among other dignitaries who attended and launched the book.
