The Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), Lagos, and Oduduwa Secondary School Old Students’ Association (ODUSSOSA) have called for deliberate and early investment in equipping secondary school students with basic and modern learning tools, arguing that such support is essential for Nigerian students to meet global academic standards and compete with their peers in technology-driven economies.

Speaking during a thank-you visit by the old students to the management of PAU, to appreciate the university for donating 158 tablets to SS three students of Oduduwa Senior Secondary School, Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof Uchenna Uzo, said the institution is driven by a long-term commitment to transforming young people into leaders who will drive development across Nigeria and Africa.

He explained that providing students with access to technology at an early stage is critical to shaping their mindset, reducing distractions, and unlocking their creative potential.

“The reason we made the donation was to inspire young people to realise that they, too, can make a difference. If you give young people the right tools to grow, they will also build tools to help those who come after them. Children are less likely to become distracted or engage in vices if they have the right tools. Providing them with these tools will help them explore their creative potential to the fullest,” Uzo stated.

He further emphasised that the institution’s mission goes beyond classroom instruction to character formation and leadership development. “Our vision is to develop responsible leaders who will transform Nigeria and Africa. Part of that transformational role involves working with young people and inspiring them not only to be intelligent and knowledgeable, but also to become people of character and integrity.

The Global President of ODUSSOSA, Makinde Oladapo, described the donation as timely and impactful.

He said the association felt compelled to formally express appreciation to the university after the school principal, Mrs Onatola Bamiji, informed members of the gesture.

He noted that the digital nature of modern education makes technology tools indispensable for students.

The immediate past president of ODUSSOSA, Omolaja Oyerinde, commended the institution for its consistent role in advancing education.

The institution’s Registrar, Kingsley Ukaoha, acknowledged that the tablet donation was facilitated through a partnership. He said the devices were provided with the support of the Mastercard Foundation and form part of PAU’s broader commitment to holistic education and development.
