Elders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter, under the aegis of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), have embarked on a reconciliation drive to mend internal fractures and restore harmony among party stakeholders in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also, the Kwara State chapter has set up a five-man committee to reconcile leaders and members of the party following problems arising from the May 2026 primaries, which threaten the unity of the ruling party in the state.
In Oyo State, the newly inaugurated Reconciliation Committee of APC assured aggrieved aspirants and party stakeholders that no one would be sidelined in ongoing efforts to unite ahead of 2027.
The leaders’ resolution followed a meeting of the GAC and other senior leaders yesterday at the Government House in Akure.
During the closed-door meeting, the leaders also unanimously affirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the party’s leader in the state and pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
According to the GAC Chairman, Pius Akinyelure, the party’s greatest strength remains its unity of purpose, noting that disagreements arising from political contests were normal in a democracy and had always been resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, selflessness and sacrifice.
He urged party leaders and government officials to work together ahead of the 2027 election to surpass Ondo’s performance in the 2023 presidential poll, in which the state recorded the second-highest percentage of votes for Tinubu nationwide.
THE Kwara APC reconciliation committee chairman, Col. AbdulWahab Lawal (rtd), flanked by other members of the team, told newsmen in Ilorin, yesterday, that “it is expedient for the party to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general election” on the background of public statements and rallies by different groups in the party.
The chairman, who described the task as daunting, expressed joy that no party involved in the misunderstanding left the APC.
He said: “We are all one family. We have watched and listened to all contending positions as they unfold publicly. No party to this misunderstanding has jettisoned the party. All pay allegiance to the party. In this regard, our task is made light. It is thus a family feud and we must all resolve issues with family love.”
Lawal declared that the terms of reference of the committee were to engage with all aggrieved members and stakeholders across the state to identify the root of the disputes and facilitate amicable resolution.
CHAIRMAN of the reconciliation committee in Oyo, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, and co-chairman, Prof. TaoreedAdedoja, gave the assurance yesterday while accepting their appointments at the inauguration of the committee at the party’s secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The duo commended the Oyo APC leadership for constituting the committee, describing the initiative as a timely step towards strengthening the party’s internal cohesion ahead of the polls.
Lanlehin said the committee would engage aggrieved members in dialogue to ensure that lingering grievances arising from the party’s congresses and recent primaries were amicably resolved.
“We assure every stakeholder that no aggrieved aspirant will be left behind. Every complaint will be given due attention as we work towards building a stronger and more united APC in Oyo,” he said.
Earlier, Oyo APC Chairman, Moses Adeyemo, charged members of the committee to deploy their experience, goodwill and integrity to resolve disputes that could undermine the party’s fortunes in the forthcoming elections.
He acknowledged that the outcomes of the party’s congresses and recent primaries had generated discontent among some members, but stressed that the leadership was determined to prevent such grievances from degenerating into a major crisis.
