…Offers over 50 degree courses
Authorities of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), has added 11 new degree programmes in courses it offers. It has also opened a window for 2026 / 2027 academic session’s admissions.
The newly approved undergraduate degree programmes are Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Theatre Arts; B.A. Music; B.A. French; B.A. Christian Religious Studies; B.A.(Ed.) Language and Communication Arts; Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Computer Science; B.Sc. Public Health; B.Sc. Geography; B.Sc. Public Administration; B.Sc. Marketing; and B.Sc. (Ed.) Entrepreneurship Education.
The new programmes bring AIFUE’s total undergraduate offerings to over 50 programmes across the faculties of Arts, Sciences, Management and Social Sciences, and Vocational and Technology Education, since over sixty years of the institution’s establishment, and upgrading to a university’s status by the Bola Tinubu Administration in 2023.
This is contained in a statement by the Registrar, Dr. Maria Njoku, and made available to The Guardian on Thursday, informing that the institution had opened applications for the programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.
It read: “The University is inviting candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to apply through its official portal. Direct Entry candidates holding NCE, OND, HND, First Degree, or A-Level qualifications in relevant disciplines are equally eligible.
“Registration requires candidates to upload a passport photograph, O’ Level result, birth certificate, JAMB result slip, and a Local Government Identification Letter. Candidates who did not initially choose AIFUE as their first-choice institution may visit any JAMB-accredited centre to update their choice before applying.”
Commenting on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Ngozi Lemchi, described it as “a statement of intent.”
Prof. Lemchi who had successfully transitioned the institution from a College of Education to the present university status said, “We are making steady progress. Every step we have taken, from expanding our academic programmes to equipping our laboratories and upgrading our hostel facilities is aimed at ensuring that our university ranks among institutions who are ready and prepared for producing world-class graduates.”
She informed that the institution had recorded milestones, including
the recent commissioning of a fully equipped Econometrics Laboratory in the Department of Economics Education, massive renovation of hostels, and recruitment of top teaching staff.
The AIFUE upgraded to a Federal University in 2023, is the second oldest higher education institution in the South East geo political zone of the country, having been established over sixty years ago. It also has a fame of “the centre of excellence in teacher education and knowledge advancement.”
