A political advocacy group, Kwara Youth for Good Governance (KYFGG), has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to aid the emergence of Engr. Femi Sanni (ARABA) as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Kwara State.

The group urged the APC to prioritise competence, capacity and unity in choosing its candidate, warning against religious or political considerations in determining the APC 2027 flagbearer.

An open letter signed by its Convener, Salman Idris, insisted that “Sanni possesses the experience, loyalty and leadership qualities needed to consolidate the APC’s dominance in the state and lead the party into the next electoral cycle.”

According to the group, Sanni, described as a founding member of the APC in Kwara has remained committed to the growth of the party and enjoys widespread acceptance across the state’s political landscape.

The group also canvassed support for Kwara South to take over from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, arguing that: “allowing the district an opportunity to occupy the office would promote fairness, strengthen internal cohesion and reinforce the party’s commitment to equity.”

Defending Araba’s Christian faith, KYFGG dismissed it as a factor that should influence the party’s decision.

It posited that Kwara has a long history of peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, arguing that the state’s political culture has consistently reflected inclusiveness and mutual respect among adherents of different faiths.

The group added that a balanced governorship ticket would further strengthen public confidence in the APC.

It expressed confidence that the APC’s strong political footing in Kwara provides it the opportunity to present a candidate on merit, competence and electoral appeal rather than political expediency.

“The coming election will not be won by symbolism alone. It will be won by organisation, credibility, trust and the ability to inspire both party members and ordinary citizens,” the group stated.

KYFGG, therefore, appealed to the All Progressives Congress leadership and President Tinubu to ensure that the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election emerges through a process anchored on fairness, competence and the collective interest of both the party and the people of Kwara State.
