Supporters of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday continued their protest at the Oyo State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that it is “Adelabu or nothing” as they rejected what they described as an alleged attempt to impose a governorship candidate ahead of the party’s 2027 primary process.
The protesters insisted that the party must allow a transparent and democratic process in selecting its governorship flag bearer, warning against any move they believe could undermine internal democracy and divide the party.
“It’s Bayo Adelabu that we want as our Candidate, we say no to Sharafadeen Alli. It’s either Adelabu or say goodbye to 2027 elections” – Oyo APC members send strong warning.
The protesters also questioned the governorship ambition of Sharafadeen Alli, arguing that he should clarify his political intentions amid reports linking him to the pursuit of a traditional royal stool. According to the demonstrators, anyone seeking to become a traditional ruler should not simultaneously pursue the state’s highest political office.
The demonstration, which entered another phase on Thursday, saw supporters carrying placards and chanting slogans in support of Adelabu while calling on the APC leadership to ensure fairness, equity and due process in the selection of its governorship candidate.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Oyo State APC leadership nor Sharafadeen Alli has officially responded to the concerns raised by the protesters.
