Alleged N15m Bribe: Court remands Ex-CCT chairman Danladi Umar in Kuje Prison

A Federal capital Territory( FCT) high court, Maitama on Thursday remanded Danladi Umar, a former chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in Kuje Correctional Center pending the determination of his bail application over alleged N15 million unfair advantage.

Umar is a former chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) and chairman of the Code’s Tenders Board.

Justice Peter Kekemeke ordered that he be remanded after the prosecution counsel, Christopher Mshelia told the court that they (prosecution) was served with the motion on Wednesday and need time to respond to it.

Justice Kekemeke also adjourned until July 15 for hearing of the bail application.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Umar on a four-count with no; CR/233/26 bordering on using his office to confer unfair advantage upon himself.

He was accused in count one to have on Oct. 5, 2021 received N5.5 million paid into his wife’s account by Kurchmivers International Ltd, a sub contractor awarded to handle internal and external painting of the Code’s headquarters.

In count two that on January 25, 2024, N6 million was paid into his wife’s account by Realities Ltd, a sister company of JTF Global Links Ltd hired for digitalisation of the Code’s management records.

In count three and four, he was accused of conferring advantage to himself by allowing a company handling contractor for the Code to transfer tuition fee of his two children in Baze University amounting to N4 million.

EFCC said this offence is contrary to the provisions of Sections 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Umar pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The defendant counsel, Sunday Edward told the court that he filed a bail application and also served the prosecution.

Responding, Christopher Mshelia, prosecution counsel told the court that they received the motion about 3p m on Wednesday and will need time to respond to it.

Meanwhile , Justice Kekemeke has adjourned until July 15, for the hearing of the bail application.
