Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that one of his ambitions after retiring from football is to return to school and earn a university degree.

The Nigerian international footballer shared his plans in an interview that recently resurfaced online, saying that although football has changed his life, he still hopes to complete his formal education.

Reflecting on his journey, Osimhen said many of the lessons that shaped him came from life itself rather than the classroom. Even so, he believes education remains an important milestone he wants to achieve.

“I would love to go back to school and earn a degree,” he said, adding that a football career is relatively short and that preparing for life after the game is essential.

According to the 2023 African Footballer of the Year, pursuing a degree is not only a personal dream but also a way of inspiring young people whose education may have been interrupted by financial difficulties or other challenges.

He said he wants them to understand that leaving school due to life circumstances does not mean giving up on education forever.

Born in Edo State and raised in Lagos, Osimhen rose from a modest background to global prominence after finishing as the top scorer at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he helped Nigeria lift the trophy. His performances earned him moves to Germany, Belgium and France before he joined Napoli in 2020, where he led the club to its first Serie A title in 33 years. He has since continued his career with Turkish champions Galatasaray.

Osimhen has also consistently encouraged young athletes to prioritise education. Earlier this year, during a visit to Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ogun State, he urged aspiring footballers not to neglect their studies, reminding them that a football career eventually comes to an end.

His comments come as Guardian Life also reports Davido’s candid admission that his greatest fear is not knowing when to quit music. While the Afrobeats star reflected on recognising when to step away from the spotlight, Osimhen is already looking beyond his playing days and thinking about what comes next.

Together, the two conversations offer different perspectives on life after success. One is about knowing when to step away, the other is about having a purpose once that moment arrives. For Osimhen, that purpose includes returning to the classroom and completing a dream that football delayed, but never erased.
