As part of the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, the Nigerian Navy has commissioned an industrial solar-powered borehole, a 35,000-litre overhead tank and a water reticulation system at Muye community in Lapai Local Council of Niger State.
The intervention project, which was activated last Wednesday, was executed in honour of the Commandant, Naval War College, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye, as a way of giving back to his hometown and the people of Muye.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, said the project aligns with the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.
Abbas, who was represented by the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeeq, described the initiative as an avenue through which the Nigerian Navy honours its accomplished senior officers.
Speaking at the event, the special guest of honour and Chief of Staff to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Abdulmalik Abubakar, commended Abbas for the project, which he said would alleviate the challenges faced by the Muye community, who travel long distances in search of water.
Abdulmalik added that the project will significantly improve hygiene and sanitation among families and schoolchildren in the community.
Also, the project facilitator, Rear Admiral Muye, expressed gratitude to Abbas for providing the platform for the intervention and allowing him to contribute to the development of his hometown.
