Text: Luke 14:16–17 (KJV): “Then said he unto him, a certain man made a great supper, and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, come; for all things are now ready.”
The greatest invitation ever extended to mankind is not to a palace, a position of honour or earthly riches. It is the invitation of our Lord Jesus Christ into the Kingdom of God. This invitation is not reserved for a selected few; it is extended to every man, woman, boy and girl, regardless of social status, nationality or past failures. It is an invitation of grace, mercy, forgiveness, eternal life and fellowship with God.
The Master is still calling today. His invitation is as urgent as it was when He walked upon the earth. Sadly, many people hear His voice, but choose to ignore it because they are occupied with worldly pleasures, business, wealth, ambition or sinful lifestyles. Yet the Master’s invitation remains open, for His desire is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Jesus Himself declared: Matthew 11:28–30 (KJV): “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
This invitation is for everyone who is weary from the burden of sin, fear, guilt, disappointment and hopelessness. Many people seek peace through money, education, entertainment or human relationships, but true peace can only be found in Christ. He alone has the power to forgive sins, heal broken hearts, and give eternal hope.
The Kingdom of God is a kingdom unlike any earthly kingdom. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall, but God’s Kingdom is everlasting. Earthly rulers die, but our King lives forever. Earthly treasures fade away, but the inheritance prepared for God’s children is eternal.
Jesus taught: Matthew 6:33 (KJV): “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
The Lord wants His Kingdom to become our highest priority. Sadly, many people have reversed this order. They seek wealth first, pleasure first, fame first, comfort first and only think about God when trouble comes. The Master invites us to make His Kingdom our first pursuit because everything else is temporary.
The invitation to the Kingdom is an invitation to repentance. Mark 1:14–15 (KJV): “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
Repentance means turning away from sin and turning completely to God. It is not merely feeling sorry for wrongdoing, but making a deliberate decision to forsake sin and obey the Lord. God cannot welcome sin into His holy Kingdom. Therefore, everyone who accepts the invitation must come with a humble and repentant heart.
Many people rejected the invitation in the parable because they were occupied with temporary things. Luke 14:18–20 (KJV): “And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground… and another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen… and another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.”
Nothing has changed today. People still make excuses; some say they are too busy building their careers. Others say they want to enjoy life first before serving God. Some are held captive by sinful habits, while others fear losing friends if they become true followers of Christ. But every excuse that keeps a person away from Christ eventually leads to eternal regret.
The invitation of the Master is urgent because no one knows how long it will remain open. Life is uncertain, and tomorrow is never guaranteed.
Isaiah 55:6–7 (KJV) says: “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
Notice the wonderful promise: God will abundantly pardon. There is no sinner beyond the reach of God’s mercy. Whether one has lived in rebellion for many years or has wandered far from the Lord, His grace is still available today. The blood of Jesus Christ is sufficient to cleanse every repentant sinner.
The invitation also reminds us of God’s amazing love.John 3:16 (KJV): “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The Cross of Christ is the greatest evidence that God desires to save mankind. Jesus willingly suffered shame, rejection, scourging, crucifixion, and death, so that, sinners might become citizens of His Kingdom. His resurrection proved His victory over sin, death and hell. Therefore, everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.
However, the invitation also carries a solemn warning. Those who continually reject Christ will one day face eternal separation from God.
Jesus said: John 3:36 (KJV): “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
God does not force anyone into His Kingdom. Every person must choose whether to accept or reject His gracious invitation. Sadly, many postpone their decision until it is too late. Death may come unexpectedly or the Lord Himself may return. Then the opportunity to repent will be gone forever.
The Master’s invitation is also an invitation to holy living. 1 Peter 1:15–16 (KJV): “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.”
Those who enter God’s Kingdom are called to live differently from the world. They are to love righteousness, hate sin, forgive others, walk in humility, serve faithfully and shine as lights in a dark generation. A transformed life becomes evidence that one truly belongs to Christ.
The reward awaiting those who accept the invitation is beyond human imagination.Revelation 21:3–4 (KJV): “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
What a glorious future awaits the redeemed! Every sorrow will end. Every tear will be wiped away. There will be no sickness, no death, no fear, no disappointment and no separation from God. The saints will enjoy everlasting joy in the presence of the King.
Dear friend, the Master’s invitation is sounding once again today. He is calling you, not tomorrow, not next year, but now. He is inviting you into His Kingdom of righteousness, peace and everlasting life. Do not allow the cares of this world, sinful pleasures, pride or unbelief to keep you away. Come with a repentant heart. Come in faith. Come while the door of mercy is still open.
The Lord Jesus says in Rev. 22:17 (KJV): “And the Spirit and the bride say, come. And let him that heareth say, come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
Will you answer the Master’s invitation today? The banquet is prepared. The Kingdom is ready. The Saviour is waiting with open arms. Accept His invitation, surrender your life to Him completely, and become a citizen of the everlasting Kingdom where joy never ends. May none of us hear the invitation in vain, but may we respond with faith, repentance and wholehearted obedience; so that, when the King returns, we shall rejoice with Him forever. Amen!
