Iheanacho targets Super Lig promotion with Bursaspor

Super Eagles and Bursaspor forward, Kelechi Iheanacho

Nigerian international forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has revealed his ambition for the 2026/27 season, which is to help new club Bursaspor get promoted to the Turkish Super Lig.

Last Friday, Iheanacho completed a move to Bursaspor on a free transfer, with the 29-year-old making the move to Turkey after he knocked back an offer to stay at Celtic.

His extension clause with the Scottish Premiership champions expired in June. Iheanacho had signed a one-year contract with an option to extend by a further year last summer.

With Bursaspor winning the TFF Second League last season, the club is aiming to secure a second consecutive promotion, which will be to the Turkish Super Lig.

In his first interview with his new club, the former Leicester City and Manchester City attacker expressed his happiness and excitement at his move and said his target is for Bursaspor to go to the Super Lig.

“To be fair, Bursaspor is a big club in Turkey and I had heard that they had previously won the Turkish Super Lig,” Iheanacho said.

“When I heard about their project, that they wanted to climb up to the Super Lig and also play in Europe, I said that this is a big project and it’s very good for me to come and be involved and help the team.

“So I asked my agent to make sure he does everything possible to make sure I come to Bursaspor. My target is for us to go to the Super Lig.”
