A leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District ended in chaos on Sunday after violence erupted at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre, Effurun, exposing fresh cracks within the ruling party in Delta State.

 

The meeting, which was convened for party leaders and stakeholders from Delta Central, was abruptly disrupted following a confrontation among attendees that degenerated into a free-for-all, forcing participants to flee for safety.

 

Eyewitnesses said the altercation escalated rapidly, with chairs and other objects allegedly hurled across the venue as rival groups exchanged blows.

 

Videos widely circulated on social media appeared to show scenes of confusion as participants scrambled out of the conference hall. Several persons were reportedly injured during the disturbance, although the exact number and severity of the injuries could not be confirmed.

 

Among those reportedly affected was a Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Government, who was seen in one of the viral videos leaving the venue during the commotion. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remains unknown.

 

The Guardian Sources said the violence may have stemmed from disagreements between rival factions within the party over internal political issues.

 

The disruption has heightened concerns about internal divisions within the APC in Delta State at a time when the party is expected to consolidate its structure ahead of future political activities.

 

When contacted for comments, the Delta State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Imonina Sylvester, distanced himself from the incident, saying he was neither present at the meeting nor familiar with what transpired.

 

“I was not there. Also, the meeting was for Delta Central members and I am from Delta South. I have no idea of what happened at PTI Conference Centre. Thanks,” he said.
