The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, has commissioned 120 temporary health workers for deployment to primary healthcare centres across Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held over the weekend in Bichi, the lawmaker also announced that efforts were underway to establish a teaching hospital in the area.

The event was attended by the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, alongside other government officials and community leaders.

Abubakar, who chairs the House Committee on Appropriations, said discussions were ongoing with the Minister of Health and the Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to facilitate the establishment of the proposed teaching hospital.

“We are working closely with the Minister of Health and the Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to ensure the establishment of a teaching hospital in Bichi. We are also seeking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s final approval for the project under this year’s budget.”

He added that Bichi General Hospital was being upgraded into a specialist hospital with additional medical equipment, including a digital X-ray machine, dialysis machines, oxygen concentrators and a 64-slice CT scan machine.

According to him, the upgrades are intended to improve healthcare delivery and reduce pressure on referral hospitals in Kano State.

The lawmaker also appealed to the Kano State Government to absorb the 120 temporary health workers into the state’s permanent workforce.

He further called for the upgrade of Danzabuwa and Saye Primary Healthcare Centres to general hospitals to improve access to healthcare services in the constituency.

Abubakar commended the committee responsible for the recruitment exercise, describing the process as transparent, and urged the newly commissioned health workers to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication and integrity.

The proposed teaching hospital and other healthcare projects remain subject to the necessary government approvals and budgetary processes.

Recall that the lawmaker recently launched the fourth edition of his postgraduate scholarship support programme, approving scholarships worth ₦25,853,128.50 for 122 students from the constituency.

The initiative, which targets students pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, is part of the lawmaker’s education and human capital development interventions.
