The APC Integrity Group has thrown its weight behind former Nasarawa State Governor and former Senator representing Nasarawa South, Tanko Umar Al-Makura, for the position of Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group said Al-Makura’s experience in governance, legislation, party administration and national politics made him a strong candidate to coordinate the party’s presidential campaign.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Mamman, and National Secretary, Goodluck Okafor, the group said it had followed the discussions and consultations surrounding the proposed appointment of the campaign council’s Director-General.

It acknowledged that several party leaders and stakeholders had expressed interest in the position and possessed the credentials required for the strategic assignment.

However, the group said its assessment of the personalities being considered led it to settle on Al-Makura as its preferred choice.

According to the group, the APC needs a campaign manager with proven political capacity, loyalty to the party, broad national appeal and the ability to work across political, ethnic and religious divides as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

It described Al-Makura as one of the founding figures of the progressive political movement, saying his political career had been defined by discipline, integrity, humility and service.

The group also credited the former governor with contributing to the growth and consolidation of the APC, particularly in the North-Central region.

It said his relationships with political stakeholders across the country could help him coordinate the various interests within the party and build a broad-based campaign structure.

The APC Integrity Group further described Al-Makura as a bridge-builder capable of bringing together different tendencies within the party at a time when internal cohesion would be crucial to the APC’s electoral preparations.

It claimed that the former governor commands respect among party leaders, governors, legislators, youth and women groups as well as grassroots supporters.

The group argued that Al-Makura’s experience across different levels of political leadership placed him in a position to coordinate an issue-based presidential campaign and effectively engage party structures and the electorate.

It therefore urged the APC leadership and other relevant stakeholders to consider the former governor for the position of Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council.

The group expressed confidence that Al-Makura’s appointment would strengthen cohesion within the party, energise its campaign structure and improve its prospects in the 2027 presidential election.

It said the selection of the campaign leadership should be guided by merit, loyalty, competence and integrity.

“The task ahead requires experience, character, and proven leadership,” the group said, maintaining that Al-Makura embodied the qualities it considered necessary for the position.

The endorsement comes as political activities and consultations intensify within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, with attention expected to focus increasingly on the composition and leadership of the party’s campaign machinery.

The group said it remained committed to the unity, stability and electoral success of the APC, insisting that the party’s campaign leadership should be entrusted to individuals capable of coordinating its structures and stakeholders towards a common objective.
